In February, while I was out tour managing Hellogoodbye, they were invited to do a second Daytrotter session. Hopefully, everyone already knows what that is. I’d been running sound for the guys, but also playing saxophone with them for one song (which, of course, was second in the set, so I would mix one song, run onstage and play, then run back out and mix the rest of the set). This song, “Getting Old,” ended up being one of the three recorded that day.
It was a stressful session to say the least. Forrest had almost no voice, we had a lot of gear that the guys wanted to use (which required it being carried up a narrow stairway), and everything ended up taking longer than expected, which made us late for our show that night.
Regardless, I’m happy with the way it sounds, and it’s really fun to hear a recording of myself playing. I don’t know the last time I heard a recording of myself playing saxophone. Download the full session here.
This made me smile a lot. Saxophone does that to a girl…and probably a boy, but I can’t attest to that. Dylan is also one of my favorite people. Don’t tell him I said that.
